1. Fijian Sheep Shipped to Samoa
Cabinet approved the procurement and shipment of sheep by the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries (MAF) from Fiji.
A total of 100 breeding ewes and 10 breeding rams arrived in Apia on 27 September 2014.
Two stockmen from Fiji accompanied the shipment of sheep to Apia, to provide technical training for local stockmen on sheep management, handling and husbandry.
The shipment of sheep from Fiji is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s ‘Samoa Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Project’, or SACEP.

2. American Samoan sailors return home
Cabinet approved the return home, to American Samoa, of four crew members who were rescued by the Police patrol boat Nafanua on 21st September 2014.
The crew had been sailing on an alia (fishing vessel) from Pago Pago to Manu’a when their boat went adrift, ending up approximately 185 miles south of Apia before their rescue.
The crew members who have now returned home to American Samoa are:
Talavou Fegauai, 53 years old from Faleniu, American Samoa and Tiavea, Samoa
Nuuuli Tupai, 34 years old from Pago Pago and Nuusuatia Safata
Meleke Sam Yam, 42 years old from Nuuuli and Palisi, Samoa
Tauaveave Tiave Lagai, 31 years old from Nuuuli, American Samoa

3. Contract for Accommodation Facility at Faleata
Cabinet has approved the consultancy contract awarded to Endeavour Investment Ltd to invest, develop, construct and operate a new accommodation facility at the Faleata Sports Complex in preparation for the Commonwealth Youth Games next year.
Tenders from interested bidders were called for, and one (1) company submitted an application.
The Sub Committee conducted an assessment according to the tender bidding document before a recommendation was submitted before Cabinet for the final decision.

4. Tarseal for Tree House Road
Cabinet has approved the contract to Silva Transport Co Ltd for variation works for Tree House Road at Siumu.
The works are for tarsealing – to maintain durability; prolong the lifespan of the road; and provide protection from unpredictable weather patterns.
The original contract for the construction of this road, which measures 1,500 meters long and 4 meters wide, was awarded to the abovementioned company in July 2014.

5. Nafanua and crew to conduct surveillance operation in the Cook Islands
Cabinet has approved the participation by Samoa’s Police patrol boat Nafanua, and its 17 crew members, to patrol the Cook Islands’ exclusive economic zone from 15 – 24 October 2014.
This was a request from the Cook Islands through the Australian Defence Assistance to the Pacific.
The Cook Islands’ patrol boat Te Kukupa is away for a major refit in Australia.

Cabinet has approved the consultancy contract awarded to Roughton International Co. Ltd for the detailed design & construction supervision of West Coast Road on Upolu.
In accordance with criteria set out for consultancy companies, tenders were invited from interested bidders and four (4) companies submitted applications.
The Sub Committee conducted an assessment according to the tender bidding document, before a recommendation was submitted to Cabinet for the final decision.
