Prime Minister to attend meetings in New York
Cabinet has approved the participation by Honourable Prime Minister, Susuga Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi at two meetings in New York, USA on 25 September – 5 October 2015.
The Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda will convene on 25 – 27 September. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and a universal agreement on climate change are expected to be adopted at this meeting, where Prime Minister Tuilaepa will be presenting a speech. Samoa has contributed in the drafting of the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are featured in the SAMOA Pathway Framework adopted at the UN Small Islands Developing States (UN SIDS) Conference hosted in Samoa last year.
The 70th United Nations General Assembly (UN GA) will be held on 28 September – 5 October. Samoa’s participation at this meeting is crucial to further develop relations with other countries of the United Nations and international partners.
Samoa’s delegation includes Associate Minister for the Ministry of the Prime Minster and Cabinet, Afioga Peseta Vaifou Tevaga and Associate Minister for the Ministry of Finance, Afioga Lafaitele Patrick Leiataualesa; and the Chief Executive for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afioga Aiono Mose Sua.

Daylight Saving time schedule for Samoa 2015 to 2016
Cabinet has approved the Daylight Saving time schedule for 2015 to 2016.
The daylight saving time starts on Sunday 27th September 2015. The public is advised that when the time strikes the hour of three o’clock (3:00am), then all instruments used to measure standard time are to be adjusted or changed one hour forward, to four o’clock (4:00am).
The daylight saving time period ends on Sunday 3rd April 2016. When time strikes the hour of four o’clock (4:00am) then instruments used to measure standard time are to be adjusted or changed one hour backwards, to three o’clock (3:00am).
These changes are in accordance with the Daylight Savings Act 2009.

SIFA becomes Naming Rights Sponsor of the Rumble in Paradise fight for Lupesoliai Joseph Parker
Cabinet has approved for Samoa International Finance Authority (SIFA) to become the Naming Rights Sponsor for Lupesoliai Joseph Parker’s Rumble in Paradise fight in Samoa on 23 January 2016.
Lupesoliai is the current New Zealand Heavyweight Champion and his WBA rankings now stand at 10th in the World Heavyweight Division; WBO Ranked 6th in the World in the heavyweight division; and WBO Oriental Heavyweight Titleholder.
The focus of this event is to mark Samoa as a potential location to host big events such as a big international boxing event like this. Samoa successfully hosted the UN SIDS conference last year and the recent Manu Samoa/All Blacks rugby match in July this year. The hosting of the Rumble in Paradise boxing match will further promote Samoa’s potential as host country and a leader in the Pacific at hosting international sporting events.
Benefits for SIFA will include broadcast exposure such as onscreen graphics, commercial broadcast during fight time live etc., exclusive SIFA branding naming rights, SIFA logo display in many areas of the boxing ring, SIFA banners, website, apparel branding etc.
Benefits for Samoa will include gym visits by Lupesoliai and an opportunity for developing the sport in the country as well as more international exposure for Samoa and attracting more tourists to visit.

Training in meat inspection and slaughter techniques
Cabinet approved the participation by staff members of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the Certificate II-Meat Inspection and Sanitary Slaughter Technique training currently being held in Adelaide, Australia from 14 – 26 September 2015.
The aim of this training is to provide exposure and enhance the capacity and capability of these employees so as to improve efficiency and standards in their roles.
The participants will also benefit from exposure to small scale abattoir meat processing facilities and learn new skills relating to their responsibilities under MAF.
Samoa’s participants are Faasoa Junior Seuseu, Tuiva Metuli and Laufou Malaga. They are able to participate at this training under the Agricultural Competitive Enhancement Project (SACEP).
