1.  Quarantine services for importation of sheep
Cabinet has approved a visit by Principal Veterinary Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), Dr. Agnes Tipo Meredith, to Fiji on 22 – 26 September to conduct quarantine services for 110 live sheep for shipment to Samoa.

The procurement and importation of live sheep from overseas is an initiative by MAF under the Samoa Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Project (SACEP).

The first shipment of sheep (40 rams and 4 ewes) into Samoa was in 2004.  According to MAF records, that number has now increased to 167.  The sheep are kept at the Ministry’s farms at Avele, Togitogiga, Tanumalala and Lemafa.

There are 47 registered sheep farms now recorded by the Ministry of Agriculture, with the total number of sheep now at 616.

Cabinet has approved the contracts awarded to the following companies for supply of Medical Dental Supplies.

The tender was advertised for public interest, and six (6) companies submitted applications of bids.

An assessment was conducted by the Sub Committee, according to the tender bidding document, before a recommendation was submitted before Cabinet for approval.

3. SIFA as major sponsor for Toa Samoa
Cabinet has approved Samoa International Finance Authority (SIFA) as major sponsor for Toa Samoa at the Four Nations 2014 Rugby League tournament, scheduled for 25 October – 15 November 2014.

The qualification of Toa Samoa to compete in the Four Nations is a step forward for Rugby League Samoa. Samoa’s national team will compete against some of the top teams in the world – Australia, New Zealand and England.

The SIFA sponsorship totals $629,410.00.

Pacific Island Chiefs of Police Conference in Auckland
Cabinet has approved the participation by Acting Commissioner of Police, Fauono Talalelei Tapu at the Pacific Island Chiefs of Police Conference to be held in Auckland, New Zealand on 14 – 16 October 2014.

The theme of the conference is, “Enhance and develop police management and services through regional collaboration.”


5.  Malaga Minisita o Aoga mo Iapani

Education Minister to travel to Japan
Cabinet has approved the trip by Honourable Minister of Education, Afioga Magele Mauiliu Magele to Japan on 2 – 10 October 2014.

The purpose of the trip is to discuss Japan’s assistance by way of grants to build a Museum and Culture Centre for Samoa.

The Minister will also meet with different museum representatives and officials while in Japan.
