Cabinet Releases (English and Samoan)
16 March 2015

1.  PFL Group meets in New Zealand
Cabinet has approved the participation by Samoa’s representatives at the Pacific Forum Line Group meeting in New Zealand on 16 – 17 March 2015.

The first day of the meeting will focus on finalising agreements between PFL New Zealand and the new PFL Group. Also planned are discussions with representatives from Neptune, who have been in partnership with the Pacific Forum Line as of last year, forming the new PFL Group. A meeting with auditors regarding the financial status of PFL New Zealand and the PFL will also take place.

The second day will include a PFL Group Board of Directors meeting which will look at financials and this year’s quarterly and annual forecast.  Also expected to be discussed is the offer by Neptune to purchase the Forum Samoa II vessel.  Cabinet has already approved the sale.

Also on the agenda is the recruitment of five sailors who graduated in recent years from the National University of Samoa’s Maritime School, to work on the Forum Samoa II vessel.  These sailors are expected to gain scholarship opportunities through Neptune to study to become Captains and Chief-Engineers.  The recruitment of these sailors is due to a crewing agreement signed with Neptune last year.  The Samoa Shipping Services Committee, NUS and the Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure are working together for the success of this programme as the lead up to the opening of the new Maritime School in October 2015.

Boardmember of the PFL Group and PFL New Zealand, Afioga Tupuola Koki Tuala; and Samoa Shipping Services General Manager and Boardmember for the PFL Group, Afioga Sala Theodore Toalepai are attending on behalf of Samoa.
