1. Training Course on Agri-Tech
Cabinet has approved the participation by a representative from Samoa at the Training Course on Agricultural Practical Technology in China on 15 – 29 July 2015.
The focus of the training is to further the knowledge and experience of staff members in rice planting and also in agricultural machinery and fisheries.
The training will benefit the development of agriculture and fisheries in Samoa and the Pacific.
Samoa’s delegation includes five staff members of the Samoa Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries.

2. Report on the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Assessment and Financing Initiative workshop
Cabinet has approved the report on the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Assessment and Financing Initiative (PCRAFI) workshop that was held in Fiji last month.
The agenda included:
Rapid impact estimation tools to improve resilience of Pacific Island countries by providing the technical information needed to make informed decisions on risk of disasters to communities and their assets;
Assess the views from the Pacific Islands on products they have acquired from the PCRAFI;
Provide training for participating countries on using the computer software PacRIS;
Share and communicate information among coordinators of the PCRAFI project.
Assistant CEO for the Meteorology Division, Afioga Mulipola Tainau Ausetalia Titimaea represented Samoa at the meeting.

3. Samoa to attend meetings in Ethiopia and Italy
Cabinet has approved the participation by Samoa at two meetings in Ethiopia and Italy from 15 – 22 July 2015.
The meeting in Ethiopia, which runs from the 15 – 18 July, focuses on an intergovernmental negotiated and agreed outcome, which should constitute an important contribution to and support the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda. The meeting will also revisit the Millennium Development Goals to ensure that countries adhere to implementing the goals to further enhance their sustainable development goals.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Afioga Faamoetauloa Faale Tumaalii is leading Samoa’s delegation which includes the Ministry of Finance’s Chief Executive, Afioga Lavea Tupaimatuna Iulai Lavea and Assistant CEO Peseta Noumea Simi and Francella Strickland Simonet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Afioga Lavea Tupaimatuna will then travel to Italy to attend a second meeting from 19 – 22 July. This is the meeting of the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience Subcommittee. Samoa’s participation at this meeting is crucial since it gives the opportunity for countries to dialogue in implementing their individual programmes. This programme funds the road upgrade from Vaitele to the airport and also other climate change resilience programmes in the country. This meeting is a chance for Samoa to lobby for a position in the subcommittee.

4. Samoa’s representative to attend meetings in Marshall Islands and Hawaii
Cabinet has approved the participation by Samoa at two meetings in the Marshall Islands and Hawaii on 13 – 22 July 2015.
The 24th Annual Pacific Power Association Conference & Trade Exhibition is being held from 13 – 17 July in the Marshal Islands. The theme of the meeting is ‘Power Supply Challenges’. The discussions are focusing on all aspects of electricity in the Pacific Islands. Participants are expected to talk about management challenges, review of new methods, new products, renewable energy, and enhancing the technological system.
The Regional Workshop by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community is held next in Honolulu, Hawaii on 20 – 22 July. The theme for this meeting is, ‘Accelerating the Deployment of Feasible Renewable Energy Technologies in the Pacific Islands’. This meeting’s agenda will focus on the review of set frameworks and legislations to attract or implement some agreement to further support the development of renewable energy in the Pacific. Plans for implementing programmes pertaining to the future of energy will also be discussed.
The Electric Power Corporation CEO, Afioga Tologata Tile Le’ia Tuimalealiifano will represent Samoa at the meetings.
