Earlier this month, Government received a $1 million tala dividend payout from the Electric Power Corporation.

Minister of EPC, Manualesagalala Enokati Posala presented the cheque to Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and spoke briefly of the EPC’s commitment, as a state owned enterprise, to contributing to the Government’s development agenda with dividend payouts.

The Prime Minister, who is also Minister of Finance, congratulated the Electric Power Corporation for answering Government’s call for more profitable performances from SOEs.

“Government has challenged all state owned enterprises to turn a profit and not just sit idle, so this is a momentous occasion for Government as this is a first for the EPC.

“This million tala dividend will assist with Government’s development plans, currently laid out in the budget.

“I am also pleased that the price of electricity is comparatively lower than in previous years.  Government continues to be committed to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels with ongoing development of renewable energy programs for the country,” said Tuilaepa.

Samoa’s goal is to be 100% Renewable Energy reliant by 2017, and infrastructure currently in place includes wind farms, solar and hydro power plants across the country.
