Electoral public holidays
In accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays Act 2008, Cabinet has approved the Public Holidays for General Elections as follows: Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th of March 2016.

The Public Holidays Act 2008 declares that the day before the general election and the election day should be declared as public holidays.

Cabinet has approved the awarding of insurance contracts to the following companies for the provision of Government Major Assets Insurance Cover, 2016 – 2018.

The tender for the contracts were advertised for public interest and three companies submitted applications of bids.

The tenders were assessed by a Sub Committee before a recommendation was tabled before Cabinet for the final decision.

Observers and researchers for General Election
Cabinet has approved the request by a team from Australia National University’s (ANU) State Society and Governance in Melanesia Programme, to undertake research and observe Samoa’s General Election next month.

The group will work together with Samoa’s Office of the Electoral Commissioner and the National University of Samoa in observing policies which guides electoral administration in Samoa.

The team will undertake detailed observations in 12 electorates which include constituencies with two representatives in Parliament and two Urban Constituencies.

Samoa College registered as a District School
Cabinet has approved the registration of Samoa College as a District School – run and managed by the School Committee.

The focus is for the School Committee for Samoa College, which includes teachers, parents and old pupils, to have the capacity to manage the school as is the practice with other District Schools in the country.

Avele College was also registered as a District School last year.
