SAMOA PLEDGES ASSISTANCE TO FIJI

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has written to Fijian Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama to offer condolences and extend support to the Government and People of Fiji in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The cyclone, which has caused extensive destruction and loss of life, has left Fiji reeling as recovery efforts continue.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa offered Samoa’s prayers and thoughts to its Pacific neighbour, and has pledged assistance of FJD$100,000.00 towards the relief and recovery efforts currently underway.

“As you begin the arduous journey towards rebuilding and the challenges involved in regaining some normalcy, please know we have you all in our thoughts and prayers,” said Tuilaepa.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the small island vulnerabilities of Pacific nations.

“As small Pacific states, we share inherent vulnerabilities to the impacts of climate change and often-linked natural disasters,” he said, also adding that “despite the setbacks and tragedy, the impact of these experiences also show the incomparable strength, faith and resilience of our people.”

The FJD$100,000.00 will be disbursed to the Fijian Government this week.
