Submarine cable system
Cabinet has approved the awarding of the procurement contract to the Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN) for the Submarine Cable System, under the Samoa Connectivity Project, from Samoa to Fiji.

The tender was advertised for public interest and two companies submitted applications of bids.

An assessment was conducted by the Sub Committee according to the tender requirements before a recommendation was submitted before Cabinet for approval.

Tuimoana Operation 2016
Cabinet approved the participation of the Samoa Police Boat Nafanua for ‘Operation Tuimoana 2016’ for the purposes of conducting patrols of the Tokelau Exclusive Economic Zone, which took place on 15 – 24 June 2016.

SPB Nafanua had also participated in this operation in 2013, 2014 and 2015. This was an important opportunity for Samoa’s Police patrol boat to be invited and involved in this type of operation.

Contract variation for Technical Advisor for the Adaptation Fund Project
Cabinet has approved the contract variation for Afioga Ulu Bismark Crawley as technical advisor for the Adaptation Fund Project.

Due to continued work requiring additional time for completion, an extension of Ulu’s contract is needed to ensure the Adaptation Fund Project is successfully completed.

The contract is due to expire in February 2017.

Variation works for the installation of on-site plastic septic tank system
Cabinet has approved variation works for the supply and installation of on-site plastic septic tanks for some parts of Levili, Vailoa and Levi, as contracted to VT Construction.

This is the second variation for this project.  The original contract was awarded to VT Construction in July 2015 for 230 families; before the first variation works was approved in January 2016 for an additional 130 families; and now the second variation has added on another 50 families to receive the septic tank systems.
The septic systems will provide better sanitation for families in these lowland, urban areas.

These works fall under the Community Sanitation Project: Phase 3 – Supply and Installation of On-site Plastic Septic Tank Systems.
