NEW MOAMOA FORD TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
By: Asenati Taugasolo Semu
The new Moamoa Ford will be climate resilience and can withstand flooding associated to the unpredictable climate change nemesis.
Under construction for two weeks now, the design for the new ford will be elevated and will not be vulnerable to flooding during bad weather, says Land Transport Authority CEO, Galumalemana Ta’atialeoitiiti Tutuvanu – Schwalger.
As the only road connection to Moamoa-uta, LTA sees this as a priority project.
“As you know, the Ford at Moamoa is subject to flooding… is susceptible to flooding,” added Galumalemana.
“It is unfortunate that the residents at Moamoa do not have an alternative route when they can’t access the ford during times of flooding and that is why priority to upgrade the crossing was given the green light,” she continued.
This project co- funded by the World Bank and the Government of Australian with assistance from the Government of Samoa.
Ah Liki Construction are the contractors with the new Ford Crossing scheduled for completion in six months’ time.
