Over 5,000 residence of Lepale, Faleasiu uta and Fasitoo uta villages are singing Government praises for their new treated water supply systems dedicated last week.
Penina Solomona of Lepale is a happy mother saying it’s a dream come true.
“We used to fetch water in drums or barrels from our neighbouring villages and the situation worsens during the dry spell without any rain,” said Solomona.
She confesses that water is a daily need for farmers like her family which rely on their vegetable gardens and other crops to earn a living.
“The problem of watering our vegetable gardens and for our everyday living is now a thing of the past. And when I think about it, I will always remember walking the long distance with my children, sometimes in very harsh weather condition to fetch water,” reminisced the relieved mother. “I want to thank the Government and the Samoa Water Authority because now we have pipelines connected to our homes and now it’s much easier for us to fetch water for our everyday needs,” complimented Penina.
Residents of Lepale, Faleasiu uta and Fasitoo uta are the benefactors of the new pipeline jointly funded by the European Budget Support, the World Bank and Government at a cost of over $7 million tala. The second Phase will see the completion of the pipeline installations and tank construction.
The new water system is one of three projects under the SWA umbrella officially commissioned last week. The others include the Lotofaga Aleipata water network; Aleisa East water systems complemented by the Aleisa East Water System and Laloanea Road Upgrade projects.
LOTOFAGA ALEIPATA
The Lotofaga project is funded by the European Union Budget Support at a cost of $480,000.
The new network include the tank rehabilitation constructed by Bluebird Construction and the pipeline installation of 8 kilometres installed by the Samoa Water Authority, supplying clean treated water to 768 families in the Lotofaga area.
The village representative Tupuola Oloialii Koki Tuala thanked the Government for this project and said Government continued to implement development projects for his village like the access road opened last year and also the water network system.
“We want to thank the Government for opening this very important project for our village,” said Tupuola.
ALEISA EAST WATER SYSTEM & LALOANEA ROAD UPGRADE
This project cost $2,833,701.71 and was funded by the World Bank and the European Budget Support for the pipeline installation and the construction of roads at the Aleisa East area including the Laloanea Road, Cecelia Road, Amosa Road and the Falemauga Heights subdivision.
The pipeline installation for this area was constructed by the Bluebird Construction and the Tank Construction was constructed by the King Construction.
“The sustainable development of this service is a collective responsibility of both the Samoa Water Authority and their client to make sure people get clean and reliable water,” said Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi in his opening addresses.
