Samoa is walking the talk by playing her role to assist her world allies to fight and overcome the dreaded Climate Change.
And the Customs Tariffs Act 2020 before Parliament for its review is one of the Government’s initiative to contribute to the global war against Climate Change.
Said Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi in his weekly television programs:
“We have to play our part and the Traffics Act is the latest contribution from Samoa to defeat this global nemesis,” he said.
He said that on the World Stage like the Paris Agreement which Samoa signed prior to the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) Samoa needed to be noticed.
The COP21 Paris Agreement saw leaders of the world come together in agreement that they would limit CO2 emissions and set a target of less than 1.5 degrees Celsius added in global temperature rise for the century as part of the Global Drive to overcome climate change.
And on that stage, it’s the performance which counts and not empty promises, he says.
“If you want your voice to be heard by everyone in the room, you have to be the one that does the work too,” said Tuilaepa.
“That’s why Samoa is respected by other countries, because our climate change resilience projects implemented on the local front is speaking volumes,” he added. “Samoa has played her part with a lot of innovations which includes the million tree planting initiatives and many others,” he added.
There is also the Renewable Energy Project for Samoa rely 100% on renewable energy by 2021.
“This mission is for the country not to rely on exported diesel to generate electricity which is a contributing factor to climate change. “
Meanwhile the local law Amendment also includes other electrical equipment under the Energy Saving Devices of code 120 of the Customs Tariffs act.
