FIAME’S PLAN TO EXIT REVEALED

By: Nanai Taofiga Laveitiga Tuiletufuga

The HRPP caucus knew of former Deputy Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa’s plan to exit the party and Cabinet three months ago, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi revealed last night during a special program broadcast live by Radio 2AP.

The first of Fiame’s plan to resign started surfacing at the same time when another former HRPP Member Faumuina Wayne Fong hinted publicly that a lady candidate is groomed to be the next Prime Minister, he added.

The Prime Minister said he is also disappointed that his former second in command’s resignation was not for “professional reasons but for personal reasons.”  He elaborated that information he has verifies that Fiame’s opposition to the LTC Bill is based on court decisions on cases which she has personal ties and interest.

He labels use of the the legislations as the cause of her departure from the HRPP, Cabinet and Government as a political tactic to undermine Government and as leverage to her political future.

The Prime Minister did not say however, when the HRPP will meet to determine a new Deputy Leader to replace Fiame.
