Justice Lesatele sworn in as Temporary Judge of the Supreme Court

Afioga Justice Lesatele Rapi Vaai was sworn in as Temporary Judge of the Supreme Court of Samoa for a period of 12 months.
Lesatele was sworn in by his Highness the Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II at Vailele last Wednesday.
Lesatele who is a highly esteemed, retired Supreme Court Judge has extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of the work of the Court.
Lesatele retired from Samoa’s Supreme Court in 2017 and start a new chapter of his life working with the Nauru Government’s Judiciary. However, he has been recalled to assist with election challenges currently before the Court.
“Afioga Justice Lesatele Rapi Vaai has been appointed to assist the Judiciary with current pre-electoral challenges, given the number of matters that have been filed, and the statutory timeframe within which these matters are to be dealt with,” said MJCA Chief Executive Moliei Simi Vaai in a press statement.
“His appointment is also in anticipation of any post-election challenges that may be brought before the Supreme Court and any other matters where the Court sees fit to ensure that the work of the Supreme Court continues to run smoothly without any undue delays.”
Moliei also noted that the appointment of Lesatele is made pursuant to article 71 of the Constitution of Samoa.
Afioga Tuimalealiifano congratulated Justice Lesatele and wished him all the best on the responsibilities he will face for future assignments.
