14 JULY 2021

(GOVT. Press Secretariat); The Government of Samoa has secured enough vaccines to ensure that no one from the country’s eligible population of 121,891 residents, will be left behind.

Last Friday, 10,000 doses arrived on island donated by the Government of Australia. It is the first of the monthly 10,000 dose donation by Australia for Samoa as part of Canberra’s commitment to supply 15 million doses of vaccines to her neighbours.

And Prime Minister, Tuila’epa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi conveyed his appreciation to all Samoa’s international partners for again responding to Samoa’s greatest hour of need through their humanitarian gesture to provide the vaccines to support Samoa’s COVID-19 vaccination roll out.

Consequently, the Prime Minister also announced in his weekly programme with the 2AP Radio last week Thursday, that the Government of Japan will donate a further 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines for Samoa. This does not include another 27,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from the COVAX Facility scheduled to arrive in the near future.

And he is confident that with the new sources of vaccine secured the COVID-19 vaccination roll out should no longer be episodic.

The COVID-19 vaccinations roll out through the Ministry of Health resumed Monday this week.
