As a long-standing supporter of education, the Government of Japan has been continuously committed to grant assistance for major capital development projects to schools that are in desperate need throughout Samoa.
Faga Primary School in Savaii and its community witnessed the handing over of the newly reconstructed 8 classrooms, a staff room, library and computer room, as well as a new toilet block funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
A handover ceremony to successfully complete the project was held earlier today (20 October) at the school compound, which was attended by His Excellency Mr. SENTA Keisuke, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, Hon. Seuula Ioane, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Tea Tooala Peato, Associate Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Faasaleleaga No.4 constituency, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, parents, teachers and students.
Japan provided the School Committee with a grant worth up to USD202,656 (approximately SAT513,000) in March of this year.
The new school facilities will replace the old two-storey building which was built in 1992. A school roll of about 220 students with 8 teachers is expected to directly benefit from this project that will provide an equal and competent learning opportunity for the students attending the school.
Japan believes education plays a very important key role in socio-economic development and hopes to continue assisting schools in Samoa through its GGP.
