Speech by the Prime Minister On the Closing Ceremony of the 33rd Teuila Festival On Friday 08 September 2023 at 9am At FMFMII
- While this morning marks the Closing of the 33rd Annual Teuila Festival the grand finale awaits us tomorrow with the Miss Samoa Pageant 2023.
- I believe it is important to note that this year’s Teuila Festival has effectively highlighted the growth in both the diaspora market as well as visiting friends and relatives. And for that reason, I wish to acknowledge all the dance groups, sports teams, schools, and families who have travelled to be a part of this year’s festivities.
- I wish also to give recognition to all the community organizations for their participation in this year’s activities especially the various districts that prepared the floats for the contestants of the Miss Samoa Pageant 2023.
- I would also like to make mention of the efforts of Onomea Productions for the preparations of the Pageant this year.
- During this festival week and in the upcoming weeks, the Samoa Tourism Authority is set to conduct an evaluation on the Teuila Festival across Samoa, NZ, Australia and online platforms. The assessment aims to gather opinions and insights from local residents, the overseas diaspora and visitors.
We are interested in understanding their perspectives on the festival’s impact, its benefits to local enterprises, suggestions for enhancements and the viability of continuing the festival in its existing structure.
Therefore, I strongly encourage everyone to participate in this evaluation process as your insights are invaluable in helping us shape and grow the Festival for years to come.
- I can’t emphasize enough how crucial tourism is for our economy. As such, it is imperative that we consistently offer top notch hospitality through our talimalo while also maintaining Samoa’s cleanliness and natural beauty. After all we are the epitomy of Beautiful Samoa.

- I also wish to acknowledge our current Miss Samoa, Miss Haylanni Kuruppu for her service over the past year and I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
