Stakeholders and Development Partners,
Distinguished guests,
My fellow Samoans,
It is with pride and excitement that I stand before you today to deliver this keynote address for this groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a pivotal infrastructure project, the Regional Airport Terminal and Apron Projects here at our Faleolo International Airport.
This important occasion marks a transformative step towards enhancing Samoa’s air transport connectivity and contribute immensely to the development of our economy.
The new Regional Airport Terminal will enhance air travel connectivity, stimulate economic growth, create jobs in aviation, tourism, and hospitality, attract investment, and increase trade opportunities. It will also improve transportation, making it easier for businesses to operate and facilitating tourist movement symbolizing our commitment to modernizing infrastructure and embracing the future of aviation in Samoa.
DESCRIPTION OF SCHEDULED CONSTRUCTION VENTURES
Regional Airport Terminal
The Regional Airport Terminal project is designed to cater to the needs of small aircrafts and the traveling public, mainly focusing on servicing air transport from the Pacific Region namely Tonga, Fiji, Pago Pago, Niue, Tuvalu, Cook Islands to name a few as well as domestic route (Maota and Asau in Savaii). The Construction of the Project targets the upcoming CHOGM meeting in October 2024 preferably the aircraft parking and passenger movement to ease the load at the current Faleolo International Airport Terminal.
Estimated timeframe for the Regional Airport Terminal & Car Park is expected to be completed by late September 2024.
The estimated costs of construction is SAT$10million.
New Apron – Aircraft Parking Area
The new apron will be constructed jointly with the new Regional Airport Terminal to assist with aircraft slot management and assist with aircraft parking mainly for private jets and smaller aircrafts, including 737boeing aircrafts. The Apron Area will target 5-8 private jets parking slots.
The completion of the New Apron is expected to align with the Regional Airport Terminal by late September 2024 with estimated costings at SAT$15million.
We would like express our gratitude to the Board of Directors and the Management for their forward-thinking approach towards these developments, which will greatly benefit Samoa.
Today, we celebrate not just the groundbreaking of a new airport
infrastructure but also the commencement of new opportunities for the business community and prosperity for Samoa. These developments is a symbol of hope and dreams. It is a reminder that even small nations can achieve great things when working together with determination and a shared vision. As we witness the construction of this Project, let us all be inspired to work towards a brighter future for Samoa and the Pacific region.
Malo lava! Let us pray that we will continue to receive blessings from the Lord and that all these works be completed before the meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October 2024.
God bless – Soifua ma ia Manuia.
