His Excellency Ambassador Fei Mingxing likens the Campus of Hope shelter facility to a home.

The observation by the Chinese Ambassador was made this week during His Excellency’s first visit to the refuge for abused and vulnerable women and children, operated and managed by the Samoa Victim Support Group.

The visit was an opportunity for His Excellency to learn about the history of the Group and how the shelter facility fills the gap in the support services available to women and children victims of violence.

His Excellency was impressed with the homely environment at the Campus.

He spent time talking to the children in Chinese. He was particularly impressed with how students attending the Chinese language classes are fluent during their conversation.

He encouraged the children to learn as much as they can while under SVSG’s shelter care, as part of their rehabilitation programs, and in preparation for their return back to the community.

His Excellency’s message to the children was simple, “You have to be happy. My visit to the Campus and seeing you has made me very happy.”

The SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang also acknowledged the relationship between China and the SVSG through the government of Samoa. In April this year, one of the carers at the Campus attended a Seminar on Campus Safety and Emergency Aid for Child Injuries, held in China.

During the inaugural SVSG Online Fundraising in July 2023, the Ambassador of China in Samoa donated substantially to the fundraising, to support the salaries of the workers as well as the operation costs of running the Campus of Hope shelter facility.

END.
