Keynote Address by Honorable Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo, Minister of the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development

Theme: Youth at the Center of Sustainable Development: Matimatiga for a Strong Tomorrow

Date: 20 August 2024

Venue: MEC Auditorium

Talofa lava and warm greetings to you all.

Today, I stand before you not just to deliver a speech but to ignite a movement.

As we gather for Samoa National Youth Week 2024, we are here to honour the energy, passion, and limitless potential of our youth. You are the heartbeat of our nation—the architects of tomorrow’s Samoa—and you are already leading us forward with resilience and courage today.

Our theme, “Youth at the Center of Sustainable Development: Matimatiga for a Strong Tomorrow,” is more than just a slogan—it’s a commitment.

It recognizes that our youth are not only the future but the driving force of our progress now. You are shaping the path forward, laying the foundation for a resilient Samoa where every voice is heard and every dream has the chance to thrive.

To our honored guests, distinguished leaders, and especially the vibrant youth gathered here—your presence reflects our shared belief in the power of young voices to create lasting change.

In recent weeks, Samoa has stepped up on global and regional platforms to ensure our youth are at the heart of key conversations:

 At the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Taskforce (CYMTF) meeting in London, we secured stronger Pacific representation, amplifying our voice in shaping youth policies across the Commonwealth.

 At the Senior Officials Meeting in Fiji with the Pacific Youth Council and SPC, we focused on aligning regional priorities and putting youth at the center of development agendas in the Pacific. These actions go beyond dialogue—they are about creating tangible solutions that reflect the unique strengths and aspirations of our young people.

But the real work begins here, with a clear and ambitious way forward for Samoa:

1. Revamping the National Youth Policy: We are committed to revising our National Youth Policy to reflect the evolving needs and aspirations of our young people. This policy will lay the foundation for youth-led initiatives that ignite real change across Samoa.

2. Youth-Centric Digital Solutions: We are excited to announce the

development of a youth-led app in partnership with UNFPA. This

platform will provide easy access to information, resources, and

opportunities tailored specifically for young people—empowering them to connect, learn, and lead more effectively.

3. Youth Hub at the Ministry: We are establishing a dedicated Youth Hub within the Ministry of Women, Community, and Social Development—a collaborative space where youth groups can come together to innovate, share ideas, and drive community-focused initiatives.

4. Calling for Youth Engagement at the District and Village Level: We are reaching out to every district and village, calling on young people to step forward and express their interest in becoming active members of the Samoa National Youth Council. This is your time—your opportunity to lead, to shape the future, and to ensure your voice is heard at every level of decision-making in our nation.

With the upcoming CHOGM, young people from around the world will be arriving in Samoa. You are the hosts who will lead them into the heart of Samoa. Come on board, join us, and let us welcome the world with pride, warmth, and the spirit of unity.

Our preparations for the Commonwealth Youth Forum and Commonwealth Women’s Forum are not just about hosting events—they are about creating platforms where youth voices lead the way. From the Manaia Harbour Market, which celebrates youth and women’s entrepreneurship, to the Torch of Change campaign uniting young leaders against violence, every initiative embodies our belief that youth are the driving force of progress.

To our youth and children: “You are the heartbeat of our future, the bright spark of tomorrow. In your courage, curiosity, and dreams lies the power to shape a better world. Never doubt that your voice matters your light leads the way for us all. You lead from today onwards.”

You are not just the leaders of tomorrow—you are the leaders of today. Stand tall, take your place, and together, let’s build the Samoa we all dream of.

Soifua ma ia manuia
