(PRESS RELEASE Apia, Samoa – March 3, 2025) -The Journalist Association of Samoa (JAWS) and BBC Media Action have signed a grant agreement aimed at strengthening media governance, enhancing journalistic standards, and promoting freedom of expression in Samoa.

JAWS President Lagi Kerisome signed on behalf of the association, with Mr Daniel Garlic, Deputy British High Commissioner to Samoa, witnessing the signing on behalf of BBC Media Action and the British High Commission.

The £12,000 grant, funded through the UK Integrated Security Fund (UK ISF) under the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), will support key initiatives, including:

Strengthening JAWS’ governance structures

Training and professional development for journalists

Promoting freedom of expression

Supporting independent media reporting

JAWS acknowledges the support of The British High Commission Samoa, Dipak Bhattarai- BBC Media Action Project Director for Pacific Programs and Liz Ah Hi-BBC Representative Samoa for their dedication to strengthening Pacific media, particularly their ongoing support for JAWS.
