Hon. Tuala Tevaga Iosefo Ponifasio
Tuala Tevaga Iosefo Ponifasio is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Customs and Revenue. He represents the Constituency of Gagaemauga No. 1 and this is his first Parliamentary term.
Tuala attended St. Joseph’s Primary School, Leauva’a, Marist Brother’s School, Mulivai, St Peter Chanel College, Moamoa and Bishop Viard College in Porirua, New Zealand. He is a law graduate of Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. He also studied tertiary teaching at the Auckland University of Technology, and Arts Administration at the University of Auckland. Tuala also graduated with a Master in Business Administration (Finance and International Management) from the Auckland Institute of Studies.
Tuala was a Principal Law Partner at Ponifasio Lawyers. He was the Managing Director for the Samoa Events Management Company and he also managed and operated Travellers Point Hotel. Tuala was the Managing Director of the National Security and Private Investigators Company (Samoa) SPIDER Ltd, and is a Certified Private Investigator. He also provided advisory and mentoring services to community projects, Civil Societies & NGOs, Suicide and Persons with special needs. Tuala worked for the Pacific Communications Bureau Ltd NZ, Formerly Pacific Media Management Bureau Ltd, Independent Investment & Consulting Company Ltd, Samoa Institute of Performing Arts and Tourism, Pacific Cultural Promotions International Ltd (NZ, Spain, and Taiwan), A Performing Arts Company, Television New Zealand as the Marketing and Sponsorship Co-ordinator Grundy’s Production. He was also a Communication and Publicity Manager for the Pacific Island Educational and Resource Centre (PIERC) and was a soldier for the 1982 – 1990, 2004 – 2008 Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (3rd Battalion).
Tuala is married with two children and is a member of the Catholic Church.
