The Ministry of Health has released the latest situational report on the status of the COVID 19 in Samoa within the past 48 hours. The report confirmed 597 new positive cases detected within this reporting period commencing from 2pm of 26th April, to 2pm 28th April, 2022. With 597 new positive cases, 596 are confirmed new community cases and one (1) new positive border case. This brings the total number of community cases to 9,519 and 73 confirmed COVID-19 cases at Port of Entry (POE).The total number of confirmed cumulative positive cases (community cases and border) is 9,592. There are 11 patients currently in managed isolation and one (1) in ICU at Moto’otua Hospital.
COVID-19 related Deaths
Sadly, the Ministry of Health reported 3 new COVID-19 related deaths, taking the total number of deaths to 19. The deceased included;
- a 45 year old male with two diagnosed comorbidities and was unvaccinated;
- a 77 year old female with known comorbidities and one medical condition who completed two doses and booster of the COVID vaccine;
- a 85 year old male with known comorbidities and was unvaccinated
Our prayers and condolences are with the families and children of the persons who have passed away. Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments.
The public is hereby reminded to remain vigilant and take heed of public health advice to wear face masks, keep to the 2 meter social distancing in public places, stay home and isolate if you are feeling unwell and practice safe personal hygiene at all times. The public is again urged to get vaccinated as vaccination remains the best defense against COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping our families and loved ones safe is everyone’s responsibility.
