Apia, Samoa – 6th September, 2024 – Today marks a significant milestone in Samoa’s agribusiness sector with the official opening of the Samoa Agribusiness Incubation Centre and the launch of the Pacific Agro-Innovate Business Competition.
The Project: Sustainable Transformation of Domestic Agrifood System (STODAS), funded by the European Union, is facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with Business Assistance Fiji and the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS).
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Honorable Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt who delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector to enhance food security, economic growth, and sustainability in Samoa. “We are confident that this competition, with its robust mentoring and training programs, will not only inspire new ideas but also cultivate a vibrant and dynamic agricultural ecosystem in Samoa.”
The event brought together key stakeholders, including the private sector and farmers, ministries, Chief Executive Officers, all gathered to celebrate this vital initiative.
The Samoa Agribusiness Incubation Centre is poised to play a transformative role in nurturing agribusiness ventures, providing crucial support through mentorship, training, and market access.
Alongside this, the Agro-Innovate Business Competition aims to inspire and empower agricultural entrepreneurs by offering opportunities to develop and scale up innovative ideas, contributing to the country’s agrifood ecosystem.
SROS, in partnership with Business Assistance Fiji and FAO, is committed to ensuring that the initiative drives sustainable agricultural development in Samoa, fostering new agribusiness ventures and opportunities that align with the nation’s long-term goals for self-reliance and food security.
