1. Financial assistance for Samoa Special Olympics
Cabinet has approved financial assistance of $50,000.00 for Special Olympics Samoa Association to help with preparations for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games to be held in the United States of America next month.

Team Samoa comprises of 28 athletes and officials and will compete in four sports that include athletics, power lifting, football and bocce.

There are about 10,000 people from 177 countries expected to participate in the Games.

The main focus of Team Samoa is to win gold and to gain international experience.

2.  International Day of Biological Diversity
Cabinet has approved the programme for the Commemoration of the International Day of Biological Diversity on Tuesday 30th June 2015 at 9.00am.

The ceremony will be held at Malololelei Reserve. The land belongs to Afioga Tuiaopo Faamausili Andrew Ah Liki, who is working together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) to conserve and protect plants and animals found on his land. The signing of the Malololelei Reserve Memorandum of Understanding will also be executed as part of the programme.

The theme of the day is, “Protecting and Conserving Samoa’s Biodiversity is a Necessity for Sustainability.”

The programme includes the opening prayers by Father Pio Galumalemana; Keynote Address by Honourable Minister for MNRE, Afioga Faamoetauloa Lealaiauloto Taito Dr Faale Tumaalii and remarks by Afioga Tuiaopo Faamausili Andrew Ah Liki.

There will be entertainment and featuring of a theme song before participants proceed to the Vailima National Reserve for the continuation of the programme.

At the Vailima National Reserve the programme will include the presentation of an Overview of the Mt Vaea Restoration Project; schools outdoor environmental education competition; youth and community poem competition; demonstration of restoration approaches in the Mt Vaea Reserve and community handicraft activities on the use of recyclable materials.

3.  Partitioning of Classrooms for the Commonwealth Youth Games
Cabinet has approved the contract awarded to Zheng Construction Ltd for the Partitioning of Classrooms and Library, Screening of Windows, Wall Openings & Doors at Samoa College and Pesega College that will be used for accommodation for the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games in September.

The tenders were advertised for public interest, and six companies submitted applications of bids for works at Samoa College; and six other bidders submitted applications for works at Pesega College.

The tenders were assessed by the Sub Committee according to the tender requirements.

After assessment a recommendation was submitted to Cabinet for the final decision.

4.  Report on the construction of the Malo Samoa Centre in Auckland
Cabinet has approved the report on the visit to the construction site of the Malo Samoa Centre in Mangere, Auckland New Zealand.

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Unit Trust of Samoa took part in the visit on 14 – 15 May 2015.

Report of the visit indicated that the construction is well underway and the building will be registered under the name Malo Samoa Centre Co. Ltd.

5.  Supply of Motor Vehicle for Women in Business Development Incorporated
Cabinet has approved the awarding of contract to the Ford Samoa Ltd. for the supply of one double cab pickup for Women in Business Development Incorporated under the Samoa Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Project (SACEP).

The vehicle will be used for independent field inspection, assessment and monitoring of farmer development activities.

The tender was advertised for public interest, and three companies submitted applications of bids.

The applications were assessed by the Sub Committee according to the tender requirements before a recommendation was submitted to Cabinet for the final decision.

6.  Payment for Computer Services Ltd
Cabinet has approved payment for Computer Services Limited services for Maintenance on the Samoa National Broadband Highway (SNBH) from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015.

The services include emergency support services when the SNBH network was down due to co-location negotiations and electricity disconnection issues; utilizing CSL resources during SNBH outage to connect ministries when SNBH network was not available; damage control support for SNBH; network monitoring with Huawei support team; update and improve the documentation for the network and migration of the Government agencies from the current status to the new platform.
