The President of France, Francois Hollande invited the Honourable Prime Minister of Samoa, Susuga Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi to attend this meeting.

France will chair the upcoming COP21 meeting in Paris, and this meeting proves its support towards addressing climate change issues especially for France’s territories and citizens in the region.

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting
The Commonwealth Heads of Government will converse about issues relating to climate change, migration, violent extremism and radicalism and sustainable development goals.

Voting for a new General Secretary for the Commonwealth will also take place.

This is a biennial meeting, previously held in Sri Lanka in 2013.

COP 21 United Nations Climate Change Conference Leaders Event
Prime Minister Tuilaepa is expected to deliver a speech at this meeting.

The main objective of the annual Conference of Parties (COP) is to review the Convention’s implementation. The meeting aims to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.

COP21 will be one of the largest international conferences ever held in the country. The conference is expected to attract close to 50,000 participants from across the world from governments, intergovernmental organisations, UN agencies, NGOs and civil society.

The first COP took place in Berlin in 1995 and significant meetings since then have included COP3 where the Kyoto Protocol was adopted, COP11 where the Montreal Action Plan was produced, COP15 in Copenhagen and COP17 in Durban where the Green Climate Fund was created.

Meeting with Pope Francis
The Honourable Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with His Holiness Pope Francis on the 3rd of December in the Vatican. The Honourable Prime Minister will later meet with the Secretary of State.
