Appointment of Samoa’s Consul General in American Samoa
Cabinet has approved the appointment of Afioga Auseugaefa Mafaituuga Faatili Tumaifale Vaasatia Poloma Komiti as Samoa’s Consul General in American Samoa for the next three years.
Afioga Mataafa Tomai Esera previously held this position.
Afioga Auseugaefa has served in Government as Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet from 1997 to 2009. He also worked for the South Pacific Commission in Noumea from 1992 – 1996. Auseugaefa started his service for the Government in 1974 in the Savali Newspaper and also in the then Office of the Foreign Affairs.
Auseugaefa has been the Director for the Samoa Life Assurance Corporation since 2012, and had served in many local and regional committees.
Auseugaefa hails from the villages of Fusi and Tafitoala Safata, and also Faleu Manono. He is a member of the Methodist Church in Samoa. He is married and they have five children.

$45,000.00 for the Samoa Weightlifting Federation
Cabinet has approved financial assistance of $45,000.00 for the Samoa Weightlifting Federation to help with their preparations for two upcoming weightlifting international championship tournaments.
The Arnold International championship tournament in Australia will be held on 13 – 15 March 2015, and the Oceania Championship in Papua New Guinea will be on 1 – 4 July 2015.
The focus of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation is to gain international experience, and to win medals for the country. The two tournaments will also help with team Samoa’s preparations for the Rio Olympic Games 2016.

Renovation and Extension Works for Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital
Cabinet has awarded contract to Ah Liki Construction for Renovation and Extension Works for the Malietoa Tanumafili II Hospital, Tuasivi, Savaii.
The tender for the project was advertised for public interest, and six companies submitted applications of bids.
An assessment was conducted by the Sub Committee according to the tender bidding document before a recommendation was tabled before Cabinet for the final decision.

Polynesian Pacific Group meeting
Cabinet has approved the report on the meeting by leaders of the Polynesian Pacific Group in Auckland, New Zealand on 3rd February 2015, attended by Honourable Prime Minister, Susuga Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.
The meeting was attended by leaders of Niue, Cook Islands and the Kingdom of Tonga. A representative from Tuvalu was also in attendance.
One important aspect of the meeting was for the Pew Charitable Trust and the Satellite Applications Catapult organisations to brief leaders of the Polynesian Group about the “Project Eyes on the Seas”, which is a new surveillance tool to monitor illegal fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zones of Polynesian countries.
The project is scheduled to start next month for a period of six months. A report will be tabled before the leaders of the Group at the completion of the project on all fishing activities in the Polynesian Exclusive Economic Zones and the Eastern High Seas Pocket Special Management Area.
Samoa’s Prime Minister in his speech at the meeting spoke on the importance of this project for countries in the Polynesian Pacific Group to find out whether there are faults or limitations in the surveillance tools currently used. Susuga Tuilaepa also reminded the meeting that its important to make an effort to stop illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the Pacific.

Financial Assistance for Marist Sports Club
Cabinet has approved financial assistance of $20,000.00 for Marist Sports Club to assist with the XXVIIth Vailima Marist Samoa 7s scheduled for 26 – 28 February 2015.
This tournament will run for three days due to the increasing number of competing teams which include teams from New Zealand, Fiji and American Samoa.
This is one of the local Sevens Tournaments that has contributed to the development of the sport in the country.

Catering Services for Commonwealth Youth Games 2015
Cabinet has approved the awarding of contract to Dora’s Catering and OKT Co. Ltd for Catering Services for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2015, Groups 1 & 3.
The Groups 1 and 3 comprises of athletes and accompanying officials.
The tenders were advertised for public interest and three companies submitted applications of bids.
The tenders were assessed by the Sub Committee according to the tender bidding documents before a recommendation was tabled before Cabinet for the final decision.
